Why this Wind Park?

By building 91 Windmills since 2020, Zeewolde Wind Park supplied green electricity to approximately 280.000 households. With a capacity of approximately 320 MW, the wind park provides a significant contribution to the generation of clean, sustainable electricity. And that is very necessary if we want to become less dependent on fossil fuels and want to stop climate change.

Contribution to National Renewable Energy Objective

By 2020,

14%
of Dutch energy must be sustainable.   To achieve this goal, different forms of renewable energy will be needed, of which wind energy will be an important part. With the construction of Zeewolde Wind Park, 2.5 times more green current will be generated than with the current mills in the area, until at least 2045. The existing mills deliver about 354,000 MWh yearly. Through Zeewolde Wind Park, this will increase to 850,000 MWh. With this, more than 280,000 households can be provided with green power. This makes the wind farm an important contribution to the National Energy Agreement, concluded in 2013.

Landscape improvement

Due to up-scaling and remediation, solitary turbines are removed and replaced by less turbines in neat rows. The result is less windmills, more renewable energy, and a quieter, more rustic and more ordered landscape.

Economic advantage for the region

Since the 1990s, the wind sector has given a significant economic boost to the agricultural sector in Zeewolde. Due to the construction of Zeewolde Wind Park, the earnings capacity can be maintained until after 2045. All residents, agricultural entrepreneurs and mill owners living in the developing area of Southern Flevoland could become members of the Zeewolde Development Association, which has now converted to Windpark Zeewolde B.V. This gives them the opportunity to invest equally in the park. The residents of the Zeewolde and Almere residential centres are also given the opportunity to participate financially in the development and operation of the wind farm. The construction of the wind farm also provides direct and indirect employment for entrepreneurs and residents of the area.   Example for participation   Zeewolde Wind Park is hard on its way to becoming Europe’s or perhaps the world’s.largest participation community  The wind farm is literally for and by the people who live and work in the outskirts of Zeewolde. In addition, all residents of Almere and Zeewolde have the opportunity to participate financially by joining The New Millers.
